Hide and Seek
Finding freedom from the shame game
In this series we have learned that
We were never meant to know shame
Shame is the result of sin and a broken world. It lies to us, moves us towards isolation, and convinces us that God looks on us with condemnation. The truth is this:
We hide from condemnation but God seeks us with compassion
He draws near to us when we are suffering from the pains of this world and the pains of shame. God wants to free us from the destructive cycle of shame. His Word points us to practical steps to silencing shame. We suggest listening to week 2 of Hide and Seek for more insight on these steps
Steps to Silencing Shame
1. Share It With Somone
Shame loses power over us when we share it with God, with a trusted friend, or even with a counselor. If you would like support through our prayer team or would like to speak with our counselor at Wellspring church, visit the website listed below
2. Speak Truth Over Lies
We can silence shame by replacing the lies it tells with the truth of God’s word
Worship music is an easy way to put God’s truth in our hearts and minds. These are some of our favorite songs and ones we recommend:
• I Trust In God By Elevation Worship
• I Speak Jesus by Charity Gayle
• Reckless Love by Passion
• O Come to the Altar by Elevation Worship
• Come Home Running by Chris Tomlin
• Goodbye Yesterday by Elevation Rhythm
• The One You Love by Elevation Worship
Scripture is another way to speak truth over lies. Below are a few to get you started. We suggest writing down one or two of these verses. Place it somewhere you will see if often to be reminded of God’s truth and what He says about you.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.2 Timothy 1:7
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! Psalm 139:1-6
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous— how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14
But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken! Isaiah 54:17
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18
